We have had another busy week of learning in Class Lewis and some excellent work was produced! In Maths, we started our new topic of statistics. We have drawn and interpreted line graphs, read and interpreted tables and focussed on two-way tables.

In English, we have carried on our creative writing unit of Oliver Twist. We wrote our narrative opening, focusing on adverbials, parenthesis and challenging vocabulary to describe Oliver's birth and his mother's death; used personification to describe the conditions of the warehouse; analysed how Oliver was feeling in the workhouse and then continued our story by writing when Oliver was sent to the workhouse focusing on flash-forwards, personification and the power of three.

In Science, we become astronomers engrossed in the Solar System. We learnt the order of the planets through My Very Easy Model Just Speeds Up Naming Planets! The children labelled the planets, identified if they were terrestrial, dwarf or Jovian (Ice or Giant) planets. They then researched facts on each planet alongside the Sun and Moon!

In RE, we continued our worldview of Judaism. We focused on the three sacred books: Torah, Tonakh and Talmud. We then read three religious stories: Jonah and the Whale, David and Goliath and Samson and Delilah. We discussed the meaning of these stories and why they are still important today.

In History, we continued our topic of Victorians. We learnt about the 1834 Poor Act and how the poor had to apply for indoor relief, also known as the workhouse. The children then wrote a paragraph discussing the conditions of the workhouse.

In Art, we continued our topic of printmaking. This week we used our stencils to create a screen print in our books.

In Spanish, we learnt how to say I would like and please - to order food and drinks in the cafeteria. We then translated orders.

In Computing, we continued our learning of databases. We explained why we use computer databases to find information, answered questions on the reliability of paper databases and then discussed the importance of data accuracy.

This week we have celebrated lots of achievements. Well done to our Golden Pupil who has impressed Mrs T & I with his stamina for writing, completing his work and being motivated to do so. Keep this up, superstar. We are also very proud of our Star of the Week who is a true role model - always contributing in class, always having a smile on her face and enthusiasm about learning, is kind to her friends and always willing to try harder!

Well done to this pupil for achieving Proud Cloud out of the whole school! He has impressed staff with his standards of work and for taking on additional responsibility. We are all incredibly proud of you!

Well done to this pupil for achieving the Reading Champion out of the whole school! She has worked hard in reading club each week and reads every day at home to go up 4 years and 9 months in her reading age. We're very proud of your hard work!

Over 80% of the class this week achieved full marks on their times table - practice does make perfect. Proud of you all!
