Another great week of learning and achievements in Class Lewis. Well done to all these pupils for achieving their 50-point reading certificate - incredibly close to their 60-point certificate and new book!

Some very exciting news this week... last half-term we wrote to Sir David Attenborough to tell him what we had learnt in our Science topic of Living Things and their Habitat alongside asking him questions about his career and achievements. Miss Edgeley also wrote a letter too, thanking him for inspiring the children. Well, we finally got a reply - not just one, but two! We will be getting these framed for the classroom - so proud of all the children for writing letters and it’s lovely to know he has acknowledged this!

In English, we started our two-week topic of a balanced argument. We were given topics and developed our own balanced arguments using formal language. We then worked as a class, building on our knowledge of the Transatlantic Slave Trade to plan our balanced argument - writing reasons for and against it while using bullet points appropriately. We then wrote the opening of our balanced argument using a rhetorical question.

In Maths, we focused on percentages. We understood that percentages mean parts out of a hundred and then found percentages as fractions.

In D.T, we practised our sewing skills - we used different stitches.

We carried on our learning of Healthy Me in PSHE and focused on the role social media has on our body image. We wrote replies to social media posts encouraging positivity about our bodies.

We carried on our worldview of Christianity by using a conscience alley to help Peter decide if he would betray Jesus.

To celebrate Easter, we decorated our eggs and background as part of our annual egg decorating, and we also created our own Easter cards!

Another jam-packed and fun-filled week in class Lewis. This week we have enjoyed celebrating Red Nose Day and taking part in lots of different activities, such as decorating the best red nose, the best superhero mask, guessing how many sweets are in the sweet jar and riding the Go-Karts to raise money for Comic Relief! Alongside these activities, we also took part in some Red Nose Day-themed Maths challenge questions and also created some double-page spreads! Thank you parents again for your support and for some very red costumes!

An exciting week in Class Lewis celebrating all things reading and books for World Book Day! Thank you parents for your support with some amazing costumes. In the afternoon, we completed some World Book Day themed Maths - finding the winner of the mystery costume and even created some gorgeous writing based on our class book The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe. Children chose to create stories, dialogue, setting descriptions and acrostic poems - blown away by their creativity!

This week in Maths, we began our topic of decimals. We identified decimals up to 2 decimal places and found equivalent fractions and decimals in both tenths and hundredths!

In English, we have continued PIXL Writing Therapies based on our recent SPaG assessment. We revisited full stops  (identifying the subject and verb) alongside relative clauses.

In History, we learnt all about the conditions slaves faced on the Middle Passage journey as part of our topic of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Very insightful and mature conversations were had by all the pupils.

In PSHE, our focus this week was alcohol and the effects it has on our bodies. As a class, we provided an alternative ending to a story and also made our own informed decision on whether we will drink alcohol when we are older.

In Science, we continue to look at forces. This week our focus has been on friction and the different types of friction: air resistance, water resistance and upthrust.

We have also created our Mother's Day cards - we hope that you all have a lovely day!

Wow - what a jam-packed final week of Spring 1! We loved our learning of Australia so much, we created some gorgeous double-page spreads which provided a snapshot of the country. From traditional foods, popular sports, their vocabulary, their leader, capital, population, currency and climate to famous landmarks and famous people.

We also loved our learning of Living Things and their habitats so much too, that we planned and wrote letters to Sir David Attenborough and Jane Goodall telling them all about our learning of life cycles and chimpanzees alongside asking them questions about their careers! Miss Edgeley has also posted our edited letters and we are hoping for a response s
