Spring 2 - Week 1 Learning & Achievements

It was so lovely to welcome the children back, and we had a fantastic, fun-filled week! Please see below for our learning and achievements:

A great start to Spring 2 with a visit from RockKidz! We spoke about our confidence and self-esteem by YASBA - You're Awesome so Be Awesome! We learnt the Monkey and even dance battled with Miss Chapman and Miss Edgeley. We loved singing and rocking out!

Maths: We continued our topic of multiplication and division by recapping and multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number and moving on to a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number.

English: We have started our new poem 'I Rise' by Maya Angelou. We spent the first two lessons identifying different shapes found in the poem, such as verse, repeated refrain and rhyming structure. We then spent several lessons learning about Maya Angelou's life, creating posters based on her early life, achievements and legacy. We discussed the themes of the poem, such as racism, discrimination and segregation.

Science: We started our topic of Sound. We conducted an experiment to see how sound was produced and how far it travelled. We used the Decibal app on our iPads to measure drumbeats up to 5m away. We spoke about how we could make our tests fairer, such as taking multiple measurements and our environment with other noises impacting upon our investigation.

RE: We started our new worldview of Christianity. We spoke about forgiveness - when we deliberately choose to stop holding bad feelings against those who have hurt or wronged us and resentment - holding onto bad feelings. We then recreated freeze frames of different scenarios that show forgiveness.

PSHE: We started our new topic of Healthy Me. We identified different friendship groups we have in our lives and how they make us feel. We spoke about how family and friends matter to us the most, because they make us feel safe, they accept us, they love us and listen to us.

PE: Outdoor Adventurous Activities with Mr Watson.

Handwriting: We created a graffiti wall for our names, regular verbs and began to practice double b's.

Spellings: Spelling Rule 6 of ee as y.

Guided Reading: Romans, focusing on inference and prediction.

A huge well done to our Golden Pupil, Dhyan, for settling in so well to Year 4 and life at Howard and showing great ambition with the presentation of his work and his hard work in all of his assessments.

We are so proud of our Star of the Week this week, who has been following instructions and showing great resilience with the presentation of his work!

Another win under their belt for the Red Roses for being the winning Dojo team this week!

Finally, so proud of these two pupils for their hard work throughout the half-term and a prestigious fidget spinner was handed out! These pupils read every day in the half-term alongside taking quizzes on ReadTheory and for practising their timetables every day!
