Today we learnt about evaporation and where it occurs in the water cycle. In 4P we have an ongoing experiment. We have put 100ml of water in a glass and put one in the classroom and one in the fridge to see where evaporation occurs.
We are looking forward to seeing the results!
Today we did a lesson about Buddhism in Thailand. As I recently visited, I showed children pictures of temples, discussed Buddhist beliefs, and we entered the classroom following temple rules - with our shoes off and quietly. It was good for the children to see Buddhism in action and what temples look like in Buddhist countries.
Today in DT we made crumble. The children peeled, cored and chopped up their apples safely and sensibly. They then created the crumble by using their fingertips, no one overworked their mixture and we managed to create 3 amazing crumbles! The children enjoyed eating them but said the apples were a bit sour! 🍏
Today, in maths, we have been looking at tenths as decimals. It was important to get the children to create these visually, so they could see the wholes and the tenths and to see that a tenth is smaller than one. The children grasped this concept well and have done excellently so far with decimals.
Today in 4P we learnt about entertainment in Ancient Rome. The children found it fascinating and it sparked some very interesting discussions! The children were shocked about gladiator fights and had some gruesome questions like "what was done to their bodies?" It also sparked the debate that if we were ancient Romans, would we find it acceptable? The children were also very amused by the thought of public baths and were reminded that modern day gyms aren't so different!
Today in RE we are continuing our topic of Buddhism. Today we looked at their religious places and how they pray to Buddha. We put on a 20-minute guided meditation from a Buddhist monk which the children took part in by sitting cross-legged, with their hands in their lap. They were all very calm and peaceful afterwards. 🧘♂️🧘
4P has improved dramatically in guided reading! This week we are looking at children's mental health. 4P have really enjoyed exploring this topic through the extracts we have read and have also done so well on their retrieval that I am now challenging them with vocabulary and inference questions! 📚
Today in art we created our own Matisse! We looked at Henri Matisse's 'les codomos' and created our own when 'painting with scissors' ✂️ 🎨
