It certainly was a Dahlicious day at one King’s Lynn school.
Willy Wonkas, Charlie Buckets, Matildas and many more characters could be found at Howard Junior School in Gaywood last Thursday.
Pupils dressed up as their favourite Roald Dahl character in aid of the fundraiser, Dahlicious Dress Up Day.
Teacher Sophie Hopkins said they had raised around £200 for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
She said: “Dahlicious Dress Up day has been a huge success and has encouraged children to pick up a book and explore the different types of characters they might meet.
“The children took part in lots of exciting literacy activities and staff were extremely excited about the event, and participated in wearing amazing costumes.”
Each year group took part and were involved in activities to ignite their imaginations and create new characters for one of Roald Dahl’s books.
The children introduced their new characters into their favourite chapter and explored how they might alter the dynamics of the book.
“Our children understand the impact that reading has upon their learning and are very proud of our reading spaces which have been short-listed for the School Library Association’s ‘Library of the Year’ award.
“We look forward to celebrating many more author-themed events,” said Mrs Hopkins.
