Howard Junior School in Gaywood is celebrating West Norfolk’s Hanseatic League links with two ship-shaped planters.

The children came up with the idea through the school council. A local carpenter, Frank McCabe, made the ships and then they were planted out to be maintained by pupils.

The ships celebrate the links the community has with Lynn’s seafaring heritage and also they are to commemorate the historical links with the Hanseatic League.

One ship is called HJS Success the other HJS Achievement.

Headteacher Gregory Hill said: “The pupils love them and they are a permanent addition to our successful school.”
