Jennifer Killick, author of the Alex Sparrow book series, received a warm welcome from pupils at Howard Junior School in King’s Lynn during her visit on Monday.

The best-selling author’s books, which feature wildlife including a hedgehog called Mr Prickles, were a recommended read for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge across the UK.

Pupils at the school presented her with a hedgehog which had been shaped from a book, and she was also shown around the school’s Inspire Suite.

Children were also able to meet Ms Killick during a book-signing session.

Greg Hill, executive headteacher at Howard Junior School, said she had “inspired” pupils through writing workshops, which had led to some “amazing” work.

On Twitter Ms Killick she was “so grateful” to have been invited to the school.
