King’s Lynn students take on Shakespeare for huge youth drama festival

Youngsters from Howard Junior School have been hard at work studying a Shakespearean classic and putting their own twist on the production ahead of the UK’s largest youth drama festival.

Year five students performed Twelfth Night last night for the Shakespeare Schools Festival, at Lynn Corn Exchange. The children have been reheasing since September after spending time learning the text since June.

Director and teacher, Louise Waring, said: “It has been a longwinded process, but we are so proud of the children who have learned lines in original Shakespearean language and put their own spin on the whole thing.

“It is a fantastic production and we were very excited to perform it. We were the only primary school taking part in the west Norfolk area and wanted to blow everyone away with it.”

Headteacher Gregory Hill added: “I found it staggering the children had the confidence to perform on the stage – everyone took part and it was very successful.”
