Special awards to pupils at Howard Junior School in Gaywood were presented by Sylvester Juwe, who is head of maths at the nearby King’s Lynn Academy – and a member of the Nigerian athletics team.
He gave an inspiring speech to the pupils and staff, motivating them with his own commitment to the Olympics dream and education.
Having qualified to represent Nigeria in the All-Africa Games in 2003, he hoped to go to the Athens Olympics a year later, but instead had to complete his studies.
Mr Juwe also had his sights on the 2012 London Olympics, qualifying for the Nigerian 4×4 relay, but sickness ended that ambition; however he did take part in a 4×4 demonstration relay event where his team came third.
The visit further strengthened the partnership between Howard and King’s Lynn Academy.
Howard School was recently named as School of the Year in the inaugural Lynn News Education Awards.
